Celebrate with these 3 Chinese New Year Songs!

Chinese New Year celebration

The time of family-gathering, reunion dinners and ang-bao givings is finally here! This year, Chinese New Year 2021 begins with the year of the Ox, and just like any other festival, the traditional songs and music are some of the most important aspects of the celebration. The following anthems are nothing short of the Chinese New Year staples, so get your speakers ready and blast away!

1. 财神到 (Cái Shén Dào)

财神到 is a popular celebratory song for the Chinese New Year. Every corner and every street during the season, no doubt will you get to hear this very lively melody. Literally translated to 'The God of Fortune is Here', this song welcomes the deity to their doorsteps, in hopes to get their blessings and fortune.

2. 贺新年 (Hè Xīn Nián)

Also another popular festivity song, 贺新年 describes the atmosphere and scene of a Lunar New Year celebration. The lyrics of hearing the sounds of firecrackers and the reminder of our childhood days spark joy and nostalgia in us as we rejoice for the new year. It inspires us to look forward and forget the pain and bitterness in the past.

3. 恭喜恭喜 (Gōng Xǐ Gōng Xǐ)

An ear worm of a song, 恭喜恭喜's chorus is incredibly catchy and easy to sing along to. Even non-chinese people can catch on pretty quickly due to its simple phrase 'Gong Xi Gong Xi' being repeated twice. 恭喜恭喜 is a greeting during the Chinese New Year, which means congratulations!
